British Curriculum vs American High School Diploma (not GED).
Let's discuss the difference. Only share what you know. Please don't make statements based on rumours. The purpose is to give people informed choices, not say which one is better.
This is my understanding:
- both can give you a matric with exemption (AHD conditional exemption)
- both allow for eclectic homeschooling
British Curriculum
- You write exams for a set period of time
- You write when you are ready
- exam boards are Cambridge and Edexcel
- the exam boards don't mind what subjects you choose but USAF does if you want a matric with exemption
- matric without exemption you can choose any subjects but you must have English and you apply with SAQA

- You don't write exams, but you must be continuously assessed. You work through an umbrella school to do this
- You must earn 22 credits (1 credit = 150 hours)
- You must cover the following subjects:
*English (4 credits, Litreature must be included)
*Science (3 credits, can be any Science)
*Maths (3 credits minimum but 4 best, must include Algebra I, Algebra II and Geomatry)
*Social Studies (2 credits, History, Geography, Economics, etc)
*Electives (6 credits, can be anything in line with the child's interest)
